For over 10 years, the NUB Exchange has been the first port of call for German hospitals when it comes to obtaining the relevant NUB templates each year for submission to the Institute for the Remuneration System (InEK). Without this submission, hospitals are unable to negotiate remuneration for the new examination and treatment method (NUB).

No NUB application = no revenue for the clinics*

In addition to the NUB Exchange, some professional associations support hospitals by providing manufacturer-independent templates. However, this service is limited to the respective specialist area. The NUB Exchange, on the other hand, collects all relevant NUB templates across specialist departments. It is therefore a great support for hospitals, which would otherwise have to identify each individual manufacturer, find the right contact person and get in touch with them. A Sisyphean task, repeated every year.

This is precisely why we developed the NUB Exchange in 2015 and initially made it available as an exchange platform. By hospitals – for hospitals. Manufacturers have always had the opportunity to make their templates available here.

As awareness grew, so did the number of downloads. In 2025, the NUB Exchange recorded 56,000 downloads. It is now used by every hospital in Germany. The user group consists of (medical) controllers, i.e. those who send the templates to the InEK.

Why was the concept changed?

The concept of the NUB exchange had to be adapted in order to guarantee maximum security, high quality and up-to-date information in the future. The reasons for this include:

  • Ensuring the highest quality and up-to-date information
    • Unfortunately, the previous exchange concept meant that the quality and up-to-date status of many templates could not always be guaranteed. We have responded to this: In future, only manufacturers will be able to upload and share up-to-date, quality-assured templates.
  • Full control over distribution
    • Some new developments require manufacturers to target hospitals specifically. Wide distribution is not desirable. With the changeover, manufacturers will have exclusive control over when and which templates are shared via the NUB exchange.
  • Sustainability of the central platform
    • The high time expenditure for the free monitoring and quality testing of the templates was no longer affordable in its previous form. By directly involving manufacturers in this process, we are ensuring the long-term stability and usability of the platform – and thus continued free access for all hospitals. The NUB exchange will thus remain the central and most efficient medium for German hospitals in the future.

Dear manufacturers – now it’s your turn!

The change in our concept certainly has security implications for you as a manufacturer. From now on, you decide for yourself whether, when and which templates are to be shared via the NUB exchange. You determine the content and thus have full control over quality and timeliness. Apart from you (or consulting agencies commissioned by you), no one else can post a template on the NUB exchange. Only verified service providers are permitted to view and access the templates!

Your advantages:

  • Maximum reach:
    • Thanks to our voluntary commitment over the last 10 years, you can now enjoy the benefits of being used by all German hospitals.
  • Targeted approach:
    • The templates are accessed directly from (medical) controlling and thus find their way to InEK.
  • No wastage:
    • Over 80% of marketing measures such as email campaigns, especially those with file attachments, end up in the spam folder or are not delivered at all.
  • High efficiency:
    • There is no more efficient and cost-effective method of placing your templates than supporting personal delivery.
  • Full transparency:
    • Display of accessing and retrieving hospitals in a retrieval analysis in tabular form and on a map of the United Kingdom.
  • Contact person:
    • Specify a colleague who is available as a contact person for the respective template.
  • Direct link to the catalogues:
    • Link the approved indication or OPS code (if available) directly to your NUB template.

Our offer:

There are two ways to use the NUB exchange:

  • Option 1: Setting up NUB templates and retrieval analysis – for a fee.
  • Option 2: All-in for reimbursement.INFO premium users – no additional fees

The online platform reimbursement.INFO, in which the NUB exchange is integrated, has a free basic version and a premium version.

As a basic user, you can set one or more templates for a fee. You can view the retrieval figures at any time. After the NUB request phase (1 September – 31 October) has expired, you can also purchase a retrieval analysis, in which you can view the hospitals that have retrieved the templates, along with their addresses (without contact persons in the hospital).

As a premium user, posting NUB templates is an inclusive service and can be used at no additional cost and regardless of the number of templates. The retrieval analysis can be downloaded independently and multiple times during the current NUB request phase. In addition to the NUB exchange, all other tools on the platform are also available to you in the premium version. These include market and geo analysis, which provides you with insight into the documented indications and treatment methods of all German hospitals since 2006 based on quality reports.
